Boston Massachusetts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Massachusetts, Renzo Piano architect,
The new Calderwood Hall performance and lecture room at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston Massachusetts has a unique cube form. The lower level accommodates a double surrounding row of chairs for performance or may be filled with rows of chairs for lectures and smaller events. Three layers of balconies above the performance level have a single layer of chairs with a full glass rail creating the impression of box seats for patrons at those levels. The hall, designed by Renzo Piano, architect, and Yasuhiso Toyota, acoustician, produces brilliantly clear and true sound. This image is horizontal.
