As opposed to exostosis theterm hyperostosis will be employed to denote the general excess ofbone-deposition along the line of the intermaxillary suture. It is acommon form of hypertrophy in the Anglo-American, and one whichhas a distinct clinical significance (see Fig. 5). The union of the right sutural and post-sutural rugae so as topresent a fork-like figure, the arms of the fork projecting outwards,is frequently seen. The incisive pad, the raphe, and the two sutural ruga? in rareinstances may coalesce and give rise to a conspicuous cruciform figure. The vertically placed lateral ends of the ruga3 are by far themost constant of any parts of the series. They are especially welldeveloped in high, narrow vaults.* Fig. The palate is normal in curvature. The incisive pad and raphe are continuous. The sutural foldsare entire, the left fold extending along the raphe than does the right. Median concrescenceis seen on the leftside. The course of the posterior palatine vessels and nerves serves as aguide to interesting conditions of the hard palate. The mucous membrane is pale where it overlies tissues which arenot in contact with the bone. The interval between the raphe andthe sides of the vault is marked by a whitish surface which yieldsto pressure. In some individuals this motion can be traced as farforward as the first post-sutural fold. The tract is best developedwhen the roof is normally formed. With a flat arch and a medianexostosis present, the track is small. With rugse well shown, butbroken, the place of the interruption occurs across the track. Thepale tracks appear to be entirely absent in high, acute arches. Anassociation of the track and the color-marking of the har
