Druidic breastplate of judgement. 18th-century artwork of a gold object known as the Iodhan Morain, or breastplate of judgement of the Irish druids. This object was worn on a chain on the breast by those delivering judgements. Other accounts say that it was worn around the neck and closed and choked those that lied or gave false verdicts. This artwork illustrated a paper on early Irish antiquities by British colonial officer Thomas Pownall (1722-1805). Published in Volume 7 (1785) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
