The Day of Ashura is an annual festival amongst the Shi'ite Muslim community that mourns the death of Imam Husayn. Some adherents take part in the act of self-flagellation. In the Iranian city of Bijar (Kurdistan/Kordistan Province) people ritually cover themselves with mud as part of the ceremony.
