Growth rate is obtained from extrapolating the GSP from 1980 to 1990; growth rate is per year. 3. Energy/GSP. This is the energy intensity of the Illinois economy, which has been decreasing. We use three scenarios for continued decreasing energy intensity: -1% per year, -2% per year, and -3% per year. The first figure is relatively conservative, while -3% is at the outer edge of energy efficiency enthusiasts' projections (Bureau of Economic and Business Research 1992, Department of Energy, 1992).
