It is a peculiarfeature of the Cuban landscape that night suc-ceeds day without any picturesque displays ofcolor, and so suddenly that there is nothingthat can be called twilight. In the same waythe sun comes up in the morning with a shoot,and by the time you get it through your headthat the sun is up you also discover that itis red hot. Everything is absolutely monot-onous, and you long for the changes inatmosphere and color and temperature thatcome with varied life in the North.
