Strong, free growth, with large, dark green leaves, from each axil of which ropelike spikes of velvety crimson flowers from 1 to 2 feet long and nearly 1 inch thick are gracefully suspended, conveys but a faint idea of the beauty and warm coloring of this acquisition. The remarkable florifer- nusness and the great size of the spikes of flowers (compared to the plant) is wonderful.
