Epilepsy pills. Boxes of Lamictal pills for the treatment of epilepsy. Each pill contains the drug lamotrigine. The upper box contains 25 milli- gram (mg) pills, the lower 5mg pills. This anti- convulsant drug prevents seizures by blocking the release of excitatory neurotransmitter chemicals in the brain. Uncontrolled release of these can lead to seizures. Lamotrigine has also been shown to relieve depressed states in manic depression.
