Congo deforestation. Loggers using a lifting machine to load a truck with felled tree trunks cut down in a tropical rainforest in the Congo Basin. The roads created to allow access help accelerate deforestation. The hardwood trees felled here are on average 100 years old. The trunks have been stripped of their branches, cut into sections, and marked with the details of the logging group that felled them. The logs will be turned into plywood, planks and other wood products at sawmills. The wood is mainly sold in the European market. Photographed at Kisangani port, Equateur Province, Democratic Republic of Congo.
