The proceedings which had occupied the attention ofthe Chapter for some time past on the initiative of ScribeE., Compn. Davis, to institute a Life Membership in theChapter, in respect that its Membership is to some extentdrawn from Brethren who are not resident in or nearEdinburgh, came up for decision at the Monthly Meetingof 20th April 1908, when it was resolved, after considerablediscussion, That the standing Committee be empoweredto commute the present Annual Subscription to theChapter by a payment of 25 s. when requested to do soby Companions who are resident furth of the UnitedKingdom. The Thirteenth Annual Excursion was held on 20thJune 1908, when that of 1906 to Peebles and Innerleithen,which had proved so successful, was repeated. There was,.. During the vacation the Chapter lost by death anotheruseful, earnest and popular Member, viz., Compn. JamesKennedy, , Merchant, a Member of the Standing Com-mittee. Exalted in 1902, Compn. Kennedy, saw theLight somewhat late in life, but had already givenpromise of a prominent career in Masonry. He hadbeen heard to state that his great regret was that he hadnot joined the Craft twenty years earlier. At a SpecialMeeting on 7th September 1908 a letter from the familywas read expressing thanks for the kind message ofsympathy which Scribe E. had sent on behalf of the•Chapter.
