Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope full sky map. This gamma-ray all-sky map shows high-energy (greater than one billion electron volts) phenomena such as supermassive black holes and pulsars. The brighter the colour, the brighter the gamma ray source. It combines five years of data. The line across the centre is our galaxy, the Milky Way. Fermi, formerly known as the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), was launched on 11th June 2008. It orbits Earth at an altitude of 550 kilometres.
