Squibs and fuse areset on fire by means of the flame of the miners lamp, or sometimesby heating a wire to a bright-red heat in the miners lamp and apply-ing it to the match of the squib or to the cut end of the burning fuse;but these methods would clearly be dangerous if applied in gaseousmines, and they should never be used in any gaseous or dusty mines.
