Yours truly, C. Clay,Roadmasters Office, A., T. & S. das Vegas, N. M. Air Pump : Attached drawing shows air pumpcrane made from pipe and other ma-terial which can be handled and put inplace by two men, and makes a verysafe and reliable crane, and will be found very useful in any roundhousewhen taking down or applying theheaviest air pump. This crane, you willsee, is supported by two feet overlap-ping the hand rail on the boiler, andheld in place by two pins. On top of of superheat are usually worth more thanthe next 50 degs., although, of course,100 degs. superheat will result in bettereconomy than ,50 degs.; it does not meanthat 100 degs. of superheat will savetwice the fuel that 50 degs. 56- HANDY AIR PUMP CRA^•E FOR SHOP USE. this is bolted a rail yi x 2}^ ins. x 5 ft.,on which runs the j-oke and wheel. Tosupport this rail from floor there aretwo pieces of l/4-in. pipe into which isinserted two pieces of round iron, whichhave a series of holes to allow for ad-justment up and down for differentheights of engines. This crane wassuggested by Pipe Fitter Com. Haun, andit is a verj useful one. Chas. Markel,Shop Foreman, C. & , la. Superheated : We note in your answer to R. L. Chicago, in your November issue, thestatement that those having reliable ex-perience with locomotives using super-heated steam say that a temperaturelower that 150 degs. of superheat willnot be felt in fuel saving. This is di-rectly contrary to the result of usingsuperheat in the marine service, as younote, and is also contrary to our experi-ence in the stationarj work
