Joseph Eggleston Johnston, Confederate general, 1862-1867. Longstreet (1821-1904) was one of the South's most prominent generals during the Civil War. He served as a corps commander both with Robert E Lee's Army of Northern Virginia in the eastern theatre of the war and under Braxton Bragg with the Army of Tennessee in the western theatre.
