ROTAVIRUS


Rotavirus. Image HDRI made according to a view under transmission electron microscope. The viral diameter is from 60 to 80 nm. Rotaviruses are the 1st cause of acute severe diarrhea of the young child (infantile gastroenteritis). Almost all children are infected by a rotavirus during the first five years of their life. About 500 000 children aged less than 5 years old, die from rotavirus diarrhea, every year, in the world. Rotaviruses belong to the reoviridae family.
