Electro-acupuncture. A patient receives electro- acupuncture therapy on his back. The patient has four needles inserted into his back with clips attaching them to an electric wire. The wire is connected to an electrical unit, with which the doctor varies the current applied to the needles. The use of an electric current to stimulate an acupuncture point is a modern adaptation of the traditional method of rotating the needle manually. Acupuncture is a part of the Chinese medical tradition which aims to balance different forces with the body. Other Chinese medical techniques include herbal medicine, T'ai chi and acupressure.
