Dramatic view of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is high in the White Mountains in Inyo County in eastern California. The Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) trees grow between 9,800 and 11,000 feet (3000–3400 m) above sea level, in xeric alpine conditions. These long living trees are among the oldest known organisms on earth, some living over 4,000 years.
