Radio map of one of the two images of the double quasar 0957+561 with suspected lens galaxy nearby (blue fuzzy oval in background). A double quasar is an illusion, it is in fact a single object whose light has been split into two images by the gravitational field of a massive galaxy lying between the quasar and our own galaxy. The intervening galaxy acts as a gravitational lens producing two images of a single quasar. Quasars are very distant, bright objects.
