Kumoi-tree blossom. View of the blossom of the kumoi (or nashi-kumoi) tree. The kumoi is a hybrid between the apple tree (Malva sp. ) and the pear tree (Pyrus sp. ). A hybrid is the offspring of a cross between two different species or genera. They occur in nature or can be produced artificially. Hybrids often have a property known as 'hybrid vigour', they are often healthier than their parents and bear larger fruit. Hybrids are often sterile, this is especially true of hybrids of different genera.
