Thecapacity of the conveying system is 40 tons per Harrison noiseless conveyor is used. To feed the boilers Admiraliiy feed pumps are sup-plemented with Metropolitan injectors and exhaustfeed water heaters. All steam piping is under the floorand Westinghouse steam loops act as separators to returnto the boilers water condensed in the steam piping. The station is located on the Chicago river and jet con-densers are employed. There are four 1,000 horse-power cross compound condensing engines with 24 and40 by 48 inch cylinders. They are direct connected toSiemens & Halske generators. The armatures of thesemachines revolve outside the fields. The weight of thearmatures is 12 tons each. The fly wheel is 20 feet indiameter. The piping is of course arranged to run theengines condensing or non-condensing and to run highpressure in both eng
