OgdenstS was a specimen of robust boyhood, athletic, and fond of all boyishsports. He developed into splendid physicalmanhood, being a little above medium height, and possessing large dark gray eyes, broadforehead, a ruddy complexion, a clear, musical voice, all tending to give him a manly andimposing presence. He detennined quite early in life to acquire a liberal education, and devote himself tothe practice of law. He had hardly commenced his academic course, at the early age offifteen, when his fathers sudden prostration of health required him to return home toassume the management of his fathers business, and the care of the family. Gen. Frederic P. Foote. The Hon. SelahR. Hobbie, for many years the distinguished Asst Postmaster General of the United States,was a member of Gen. Footes staff at the same time, and had been an intimate friend ofMr. Ogden from boyhood.
