This stands, a fort within a fort, over-looking the entrance to the harbour on theeast side of the town. Two sides of itswalls are included in the p^eneral fortifica-tions, the other two face inwards towardsthe town, from which they are separatedby a moat. The illustration shows two of the towersof the Castle, the south wall, and entranceto the moat. The bastion in the foregroundwith the Venetian Lion of St. Mark iscalled Desdemonas Tower. The origfinof this I have mentioned earlier in thischapter.
