Head 2| to 3 times as long as broad, with curved upper profile; lower jaw projecting; snout longer than broad, a little shorter than postocular part of head, IJ to If times length of eye, which is 4 to 4| times in length of head, equals interorbital width, and a little exceeds prseorbital depth ; mouth extending to below anterior border of eye; teeth in 3 or 4 series, outer much larger than the others, about 50 in upper jaw; 3 or 4 series of scales on the cheek, width of scaly part equal to diameter of eye. Gill-rakers short, 10 to 1:^ on lower part of Fig. liiP^ Paratiliqna vittuta, Type(Tr. Z. S. 1901). anterior arch. Dorsal XV-XV^l 8-9; spines subcqual from the seventh or eighth, about J length of head and f longest soft rays. Anal III 8-0 ; third spine as long as longest dorsals. Pectoral about f length of head, not extending quite to vertical of origin of anal. Ventral reaching vent or origin of anal. Caudal truncate. Caudal peduncle.
