Hysteroscopic sterilisation, coloured X-ray. Frontal view of a 42 year old woman's pelvis, showing two intrafallopian implants (thin wires at centre). The procedure involves placing the implants (small, flexible titanium microinserts) into the fallopian tubes under local anaesthetic. The microinserts induce scar tissue and block off the fallopian tubes. It is a permanent form of contraception.
