Hohenlychen Sanatorium, Lychen
The sanatorium was opened in 1902 to treat tuberculosis patients. It was later used by the Nazis and became a fashionable health resort regularly visited by Rudolf Hess and Heinrich Himmler. It was the sports sanatorium for the Third Reich and served as the central hospital for the athletes who participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It became a military hospital in the Second World War and was one of the main hospitals for wounded SS men. The Soviet army used it as a military hospital the war until 1993. Since then it has been abandoned and is quietly crumbling.
