Evaporation pond. Workers checking a pump used for pumping water betweej lithium evaporation ponds in the Atacama desert, Chile. Over a number of months the sun evaporates the water, leaving a highly concentrated lithium chloride solution. This is then processed into lithium carbonate that is used in the production of batteries.
