Virtual reality display, Circus Maximus. Researchers using virtual reality goggles to view and interact with a computer model of the Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy. The model is being viewed on the Hemicyclia, which consists of a large curved screen for a panoramic, semi-circular view. The Circus Maximus was the largest chariot racetrack in ancient Rome. It was 600 metres long, 80 metres wide, and could hold 250,000 spectators. A central divide, the spina, separated the two sides of the oval track. This work is being carried out at LABRI (Laboratoire Bordelais de Recherche en Informatique), the data processing research laboratory at the University of Bordeaux, France.
