A very desirable and beautiful fruit- bearing tree for the southern states, where a number of different varieties introduced from Jap. are cultivated, but the hardier varieties from the north of Jap. and China, which are likely to be hardy north to New England, seem hitherto not to have been introduced. Spring. Tex., N. Mex. . 6:254. D. Ebtnum, Koeuig. Tree, to 50 ft.: lvs. elliptic-oblong, bluntly acuminate, glabrous: fls. white, staminate, in short ra- cemes. E. Ind., Ceylon.
