Mohammed al amin Mosque, Beirut, Lebanon

Mohammed al amin Mosque, built between 2002 and 2007, is the largest in Beirut and is built right beside the christian St George Cathedral. It stands by Place des Martyrs (Sahet el-Chouhada), Beirut's most famous square, and has become the defining symbol of the city. With its Ottoman-style minarets and Byzantine central dome, the mosque was inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
