Fish-eye lens view of the southern Milky Way, from the constellation of Sagittarius (left), through Scorpius, Centaurus, and Crux (the Southern Cross), to Carina (right). The band of the Milky Way is intersected by dark lanes and clouds of dust, which obscure the stars beyond. The photograph was taken from Ayers Rock, Australia, with a 16mm lens and encompasses nearly 180 degrees of the sky. Taken 15 April, 1986. 16mm, , 20 min. exposure, Fuji 400-D pushed to 800.
