[November 10th, 1887.) 321 XVI. INSTRUMENTS. 1. An arrangement of gas-burners and reflectors for efficientmaximum and minimum illumination of the perimeter. By Henry Juler. This can be applied to any form of perimeter. Itconsists of two Suggs argand burners one on each sideof tbe patients bead some inches from each temporalregion. Behind each burner is placed a large concave. reflector in such a manner as to project the light equallyover the whole area of the perimeter without interceptionby the patients head. The examination is made in an otherwise dark room. VOL. VIIT. 21 322 INSTRUMENTS. The chimneys of the gas-burners are graduated incentimetres so that an approximate estimate of the heightof each flame, and consequently of the amount of illumi-nation used at the time of each examination^ may bemade. In certain cases, as for example in retinitis pigmentosa, where defective light sense may exist, it is advantageousto be able to obtain uniform diminution of illumination ;with this apparatus such diminution can be easily obtainedand approximately estimated by the comparative heightof the flame. {Card specimen. They are speciallyvaluable when free play
