He became assistant toSir Valentine Chirol, then headof the Foreign Department ofthe Times, 1907-1912. In 1912succeeded Sir Valentine Chirolin that capacity, and waselected a Director of the TimesPublishing Company. In 1914he was appointed editor of theDaily Telegraph (Sydney.).
