Christina, 1626 – 1689. Queen of Sweden from 1632 - 1654. This allegorical portrait by Paulus Pontius after the painting by Justus van Egmont portrays the queen as Minerva. Like the Roman goddess, the Queen was a fount of wisdom and sponsor of the arts. In her lifetime she was sometimes called the Minerva of the North.
