The Towers in this style are frequently extremelyrich and elaborately ornamented, having four or fivestories of large windows with rich canopies, pinnacles,and tabernacles; double buttresses at the angles, andrich deep open parapets, with pinnacles and crocketed 202 PERPENDICULAR TOWERS. turrets at the corners, having small flying or hang-ing pinnacles attached. These very gorgeous towersare chiefly found inSomersetshire, as atWrington, Taunton,Brislington (156), & are, however,few which, for beautyof proportion andchasteness of compo-sition, can rival thatof Magdalen College,Oxford.
