Constellations seen from the seashore. Group of observers on rocks by the sea, observing constellations in the night sky. The caption with the artwork names the constellations as: The Swan (Cygnus), The Lyre (Lyra), Hercules, The Crown (Corona Borealis), The Herdsman (Bootes), The Eagle (Aquila), The Serpent (Serpens), The Balance (Libra), The Scorpion (Scorpius), and Sagittarius. Also seen is the Milky Way (diagonal, white), a side-on internal view of our galaxy. This artwork, by French illustrator Leon Benett (1838-1917), is from Astronomical Myths (1877) by the British geologist John Frederick Blake (1839-1906).
