Sintering manufactured joysticks. Helicopter joysticks produced by laser sintering, a form of 3D additive manufacturing (3D printing). Sintering involves heating a powder (here, metal) at a temperature below its melting point until the particles of the powder adhere to each other to form a solid object. The heat is often applied with a laser beam, guided by a computer, allowing complex 3D structures to be produced. This facility is operated by INITIAL, a French company founded in 1991 and part of Prodways Group since 2015. Photographed in 2010.
