St David's Church, Port Arthur, Tasmania
The small church of St David's at the penal settlement of Port Arthur in Tasmania. Port Arthur was established as a small timber station in 1830. By 1840 it housed over 2000 convicts and civil staff and was a major industrial centre in Tasmania producing a range of essential goods from ships to shoes. The prison complex finally closed down in 1877 but remained a settlement that was renamed Carnarvon and tourism became an important industry. This church was constructed in 1927.
