Oblong-oval, .surface very shining, as if varnished. Head often entirely black except the front, sometimes nearly wholly yellow; thorax yellow, usually with a narrow median spot, sometimes an indistinct spot each side; elytra yellow, the suture, margins and a median stripe black; under surface and legs usually yellow, tips of tibiae and tarsi, and sometimes the hind por- tion of metasternum, piceous. Thorax more than twice as wide as long, margins narrow, surface smooth, shin- ing. Elytra a little wider at base than thorax, very finely and sparsely punctate. Length mm. (Fig. .122.) Throughout the State, cimillion; more so in the southern coun- ties. April 6--July S. Taken by sweeping madside herbage, espe- cially the i>igweed, Amaranlus }i^ ]j.
