The People of theIfland {hewed them great Kindnefs in their Diftrefs,and made them a Fire to warm them; but when had gatherd a Bundle of Sticks, and laid themon the Fire, a Viper came out of the Heat, andfaftend on his Hand, which made the Company con-clude him to be an ill Man, and that tho he hadefcaped the Shipwreck, Vengeance futferd him not tolive : But when they faw him make oft* the Viper intothe Fire, without receiving any Harm, they changedtheir Minds, and faid he was a God.
