Memorial to Severn Rail Bridge disaster at Purton, Gloucestershire.


Memorial plaque on the banks of the River Severn at Purton, Gloucestershire, commemorating the accident in October 1960 which claimed the lives of five sailors and led to the demolition of the original Severn Rail Bridge. The tankers Arkendale H and Wastdale H collided in thick fog and caught fire. The vessels caused serious damage to the rail bridge which was later demolished.
