Tunisia Thuburbo Maius Colonia Julia Aurelia Commoda


In accordance with the standart urban plan, this stately monument overlooks the Forum. It is mounted by a flight of steps occupying the whole width of the sanctuary and opening on the vestibule of te pronaos remarkable for a façade with six grooved pillars carved in pink limestone rising 8m high. The temple built in 168 AD. Only the remains of Jupiter's statue have been found. At much later period, an olive-press was set in the subterranean room of the naos. The Capitolium (dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva) of the Roman colony of Thuburbo Majus (or Maius). The hexastyle temple was built on a massive podium in the second half of the second century.
