Ishana as the guardian of the north-east. He rides a richly caparisoned and bejeweled Nandi, on whose hind leg is painted a trishula (trident). In Ishana’s upper right hand is the damaru (hourglass shaped drum) and in his upper left hand the mriga (gazelle), and in his lower left hand is the staff.
