A German vermeil-mounted ivory tankard, circa 1860, Elaborately crafted tankard in baroque style. Body made of ivory with continuous multi-figured Bacchanalian scene in half relief. Depiction of a recumbent Dionysius surrounded by satyrs and bacchantes. Mounting of fire-gilt silver, the foot with engraved and partly chased flower ornaments. Screw-mounted volute handle, shell-shaped thumb piece with mascaron. Hinged domed lid decorated with engraved garlands and monogram cartouche "MCS".
