VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (April 22, 2017) - Visitors pose with Stewie, the Navy's environmental turtle mascot, hand out stickers to children at the "Stewards of the Sea: Defending Freedom, Protecting the Environment" exhibit during Earth Day 2017 at Mount Trashmore. Stevie is holding a compressed plastic disk display created by shipboard waste processors aboard Navy ships that are stored until they are offloaded during replenishment-at-sea or when a ship pulls into port, since plastic waste is prohibited from being dumped into the ocean.
