The outer and endwalls are composed principally of vitrified tile and the roofstructure is of wood. The usual swinging doors with largelighting area are provided. Near the center of the house thereis a driving wheel drop pit covering two tracks and two truckwheel pits covering the next two tracks. The machine shop is an Smoke Jack. The coal for firing the four 400 Babcockand Wilcox boilers is brought in on a trestle alongside thepower-house. Automatic Roney stokers have been installed withthe boilers. Ashes are handled in the tunnel under the boilersand deposited into empty coal cars at the end of the trestle bymeans of a self-discharging air hoist arrangement, in which thebuckets are drawn up over the top of the cars and dischargedand returned automatically. Water service is provided from three tanks, one of 100,000gals, capacity, giving a head of 32 ft., and one of 265,000 gals,capacity, giving a head of 50 ft. at the powerhouse and one of100,000 gals, capacity and a head of 50 ft. at the roundhouse. extension on the outer wall near the drop pits and contains asmall planer, forge, lathe and drill.
