Brother Phillips had his stamp, allright, inscribed with his signature asrequired. But the justice had the warden proceded to ex-plain the law. After hearing the justice declare thathe had known nothing of the law andthat he would hasten to the nearest postoffice to get his stamp, the warden, in-stead of incarcerating the offender in the. IocmI clink, merely tipp(Ml his hat andwithdrew. Justice Van Devanter declined tocomment on the incident, but the Phillips told the story. He ex-pressed great admiration for his hunt-ing companion, whom he termed a fineoutdoor man.
