Wooden Dolly mahogany wood sculpture in Northumberland Square, North Shields, north east England UK
This is the 5th version of the "Wooden Dolly", depicting a north east "fish wife", and replacing a previous version that had become rotten and/or vandalised. The earlier sculptures were situated on the quayside not far from the fish quay, but this one is located in the town square. It was made in the workshops of Robert Thompson in 1958 in Yorkshire, using the previous dolly as a model. The sculpture was recently renovated.
