Protein analysis. Technician preparing to use an automated microsequencer machine to analyse the amino-acid sequence of samples of protein. It uses a chemical method to remove the protein's constituent amino acids one by one. The protein's sequence can provide information concerning its structure, identity and function. Proteins are the major structural building blocks of the body and also form enzymes that promote the body's biochemical reactions. They comprise one or more chains of amino acids. The determination of the function of all proteins expressed in the body is known as proteomics.
