Butthey were not permitted to remain there long. Theleader began to assert his authority. Raising hishead with an angry snort, he sent his heels rightand left to such good purpose that he quicklycleared a space about him. The instant that hishead was elevated was enough for Archie. Thelariat left his hand, true to its aim this time, andsettling down over the bays neck was quicklydrawn tight. Finding himself fast, the horsestarted to run, but the other end of the lasso wassecurely fastened to Archies saddle, and his ownhorse bracing himself to meet the shock, the cap*tured steed was thrown flat on his side.
