A Victorian picture of the old gas works (now demolished) at Whityby North Yorkshire, England. The picture is taken from the East bank of the River Esk which would later be connected to the east side by a railway viaduct to be built over the gasworks site. The railway lines from Whitby to Middlesbrough via the coast, and Whitby to Middlesbrough via the Esk Valley can be seen opposite the two men. The derelict gasworks site was later reclaimed by Fif Robinson who lived there using home-made solar panels to provide electricity.
